About the Kentucky State Data Center
The Kentucky State Data Center is located in the Urban Studies Institute at 426 W. Bloom Street, Louisville, KY on the University of Louisville's main campus. Since 1980, KSDC and its 75-member affiliate network has provided training and technical assistance in accessing and using Census data for research, administration, planning, and decision making by the government, the business community, university researchers, and other interested data users. The State Data Center is a cooperative effort among the the University of Louisville, the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the U.S. Census Bureau's State Data Center Program. Dr. Janet Kelly is the director of the Center. Vernon Smith and Eric Schneider provide data services and technical assistance to data users.
Kentucky Population Research is the applied demographic research program of the University of Louisville's Urban Studies Institute providing technical assistance to the Kentucky State Data Center. As Kentucky's representative in the Federal-State Cooperative Program for Population Estimates and Projections, KPR, in conjunction with the U.S. Bureau of the Census, is the state's official source of population estimates and forecasts. In addition, we maintain extensive data holdings including 1980 and 1990 census data, Current Population Surveys (CPS), Kentucky vital statistics, and Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) data. These resources provide the basis for a variety of demographic services to accommodate the informational needs of state and local goverments and businesses. Michael Price serves as the Kentucky State Demographer and directs the KPR program. Technical/research assistance is provided by Thomas Sawyer.
